GTI International Heads to the Shakespeare County Raceway
One of the most popular events on the VW calendar is happening this weekend and it’s shaping up to be a cracker. Now in its 29th year running, GTI International, more often known simply as Inters, is making its way to the Shakespeare County Raceway near Stratford-upon-Avon between the 9th and 19th of July.
Inters need little introduction, but this year there is a special focus as VW’s Golf GTI hits the grand old age of 40. The show’s organisers are hoping to get as many Golf GTIs together as possible to create and photograph a ‘Big GTI’ logo from the air. With over 200 enthusiasts already putting themselves forward to join in it looks like they’ll achieve their ambition. As well as the Big GTI party piece there will be a line-up of Golf GTIs from each generation including what is believed to be the oldest right hand drive GTI in the UK.
As ever there will be the usual raft of club and individual displays at Inters, as well as an array of traders including many of the top component and tuning suppliers including Revo, Shark Performance, Milltek Sport and more. If you really want to get stuck in, camping’s available throughout the weekend.
It’d be rude to hold an event at a drag strip and neglect to use it, and thankfully anyone attending Inters can test their skills over Shakespeare County’s quarter mile with full use of the timing equipment and marshalling all day. It remains to be seen whether anyone can beat the GTI International record of 9.021 seconds set by a 20VT 4WD Scirocco.
As ever with Inters, it’s not just cars from the Volkswagen stable that are welcome; anything from across the VAG Group will find itself welcome at the event. And with the forecast for the weekend looking decent, GTI International 2016 is looking set to be another big hit. For more details, check out: www.gtiinternational.co.uk
